Yo! Triumph at the Film Awards

ole0.jpgAt the red carpet Film Premier Gala for “It’s My Shout” 2008 held at the Royal Pavilion, Porthcawl on Saturday 25 October , Rhys Davies Yo! and Cuan Wyn Rowlands Yo! collected the awards for Best Junior Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively. There was tumultuous response from the glittering celebrity guest audience for the recognition of the boys' roles in “Egin” which also scooped the Best Film, Best Screen-Play and Best Music Awards. “Egin”, filmed in Welsh and back to back in English as “The Bulb”,  portrayed the emotional effect of bullying.  Director Nerys Wyn Davies, also director at S4Cs “Pobol y Cwm”, was thrilled to receive the Best Film Award for “Egin” which  was  the first “It’s  My shout” welsh language film presentation. “Egin” was filmed during August 2008 at Maes yr Yrfa School and other locations in Carmarthen and will be screened in English on HTV at 11:00pm on 3rd December 2008.

These awards complete an amazing hat-trick for the Youth Opera as Rhys and Cuan Wyn follow in the footsteps of Michael-Rae Formston Yo! who received the award for Best Actor for the previous two years running in “First Kiss”  2006 and “What Goes On Tour” 2007. The screen play for “What goes on Tour” was also written by a past Youth Opera cast member Mike Doyle Yo! and portrayed the hilarious antics of a touring Rugby team culminating in a bare cheek forfeit.

cian.jpg“It’s My Shout” promotes film making expertise in South Wales, nurturing young actors, technicians and writers through the production of an annual collection of short films. The topics are very diverse, sensitive and sometimes controversial, but based on contemporary issues driven by the youngsters themselves . The professionalism of the screenplays, the young actors, the direction, the technical, visual and sound accomplishments justify accolades to the vision of the organisation, spearheaded by *Roger Burnell,   and its sponsors alike.

“It’s My Shout” is primarily sponsored by HTV Wales with South Wales based partners from businesses and local authorities. Included in this list is our own Carmarthenshire County Council through the innovative Youth Initiative “LLAIS” (Llwyfan I Actorion Ifanc y Sir / Stage for the Young Actors of the County) of which Yo!  Carmarthen Youth Opera is an executive member.
