Members of the Carmarthen
Youth Opera enjoyed the rare honour of performing for HM the Queen at the
official inauguration of the £1 billion South Hook liquefied natural gas (LNG)
terminal at Milford Haven. The historic event was also attended by the Duke of
Edinburgh, the Duke of York as well as senior members of the Qatari Royal
Family.
The twenty four Youth Opera youngsters
were in the line up to be presented to the Queen and performed a song especially
written for the occasion. Two Youth Opera members, 10 year old Thomas Miles
from Llanddarog and 9 year old Anna Parker from Croesyceiliog, were chosen,
along with two Qatari children, to be part of the special Inauguration Ceremony
by receiving two crystal plaques from the Emir of Qatar and HM the Queen, which
were then installed in the specially commissioned sculpture to be retained on
the site. Artistic Director of the
Youth Opera, Adrian Wyn Rowlands, said, “This was a moment to be treasured. The
children’s superb performance in front of the Queen follows our successful
production of ‘South Pacific’ earlier in the year. We have been truly
honoured’.
